Whether you are exploring faith for the first time, returning after a long absence, or looking for something to feed a growing walk with God, we hope these resources encourage you. All content on this page is written by members of our community for the community — no jargon, no pressure, just honest reflection.

Starting to Read the Bible

The Bible can feel daunting if you have never opened it, or if you have tried and quickly lost your footing. Here is a simple starting point we often recommend.

Begin with a Gospel

Start with the Gospel of Mark — the shortest of the four Gospels — or the Gospel of Luke, which is often called the most accessible. Read a short section at a time (perhaps ten to fifteen minutes), and ask three questions as you go:

  • What does this passage say about God?
  • What does this passage say about people?
  • What might this passage be inviting me to notice or do?

You do not need a study Bible or a commentary to begin. You only need curiosity and a little quiet.

A Simple Daily Practice

Many of our members find that a short, consistent daily practice does more for their faith than an ambitious plan that quickly collapses. Here is one shape it can take:

  • Pause — take three slow breaths.
  • Read — a short scripture passage (a paragraph or two).
  • Reflect — ask what stands out and why.
  • Pray — a sentence of thanks, a sentence of asking, a sentence of listening.

Ten minutes, most days, will shape a life over time.

Common Questions

I have doubts. Am I still welcome?

Absolutely. Doubt is not the opposite of faith — indifference is. Many of the most faithful people we know are also the most honest about their questions. You do not have to sort everything out before you belong.

What if I do not know what I believe?

That is a wonderful place to start. Our services, our small groups, and our conversations are all designed for people at every stage of the journey. There is no test at the door.

Do I need to become a member to attend?

No. Attendance is always open. Membership is a specific commitment that some choose after they have been part of the community for a while, but it is never a condition of participation.

What does it mean to be Baptist?

In brief, Baptists emphasise the personal nature of faith, believer's baptism, the authority of scripture, freedom of conscience, and the local church as a community of gathered believers. Different Baptist congregations vary in style and emphasis, but these are common threads.

How can I find a small group?

Small groups form each fall and spring. Contact the church office and let us know what you are looking for — a study, a discussion, a shared meal — and we will point you toward a group with an open chair.

Can I speak with someone confidentially?

Yes. Members of our pastoral care team are available to listen, pray with you, and walk alongside you through hard seasons. Reach out through our contact page and we will respond with care and confidentiality.

A Closing Word

Wherever you are on your journey — walking closely with God, holding on by a thread, or simply curious — we hope these words meet you kindly. If any of what you have read here raises a question you would like to talk through, please reach out. There is a chair for you at Woodville.
